Experimental, bizarre, formal, visceral and individualist 42min 16mm B&W british one-shot TV ghost story directed by Jonathan Miller, who had just made the fantastic 16mm B&W gothic Victorian, nostalgic childhood-lost, melancholy version of "Alice In Wonderland" (1966), also for british television. Adapted from a story by M.R. James (a turn of the 19th century british scholar who wrote ghost stories), photographed in beautiful stark contrasting B&W 16mm by Dick Bush (who also shot "Alice In Wonderland" for Miller) and featuring a pitch-perfect idiosyncratic performance by Michael Horndern ("The Bed Sitting Room", ect.).
